Matt Cooper

CEO & Technical Director

  • Disciplines: The dark arts that are found in the LAMP stack
  • Special skills: Object-oriented app development, Wing Chun
  • Favourite bands: Slayer, Maiden, Led Zep, Queen, Placebo.
  • Matt has been developing for many years and is at his happiest when seated in front of his array of monitors staring into the scary depths of the command line interface. When not in developer mode, Matt is often blatting about the Essex countriside on Bertha, his big yellow motorbike, or reading and supping cider in one of his local watering holes.
Jim

Jim Rayfield

Creative Head

  • Disciplines: Design nerd and professional dreamer
  • Special skills: Contemporary design and an eagle eye for detail
  • Favourite bands: Motorhead, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Beatles
  • Jim is a classically trained designer, picking up a BA in Electronic Media Design at the University of Sunderland and has been in the industry for 5 years. Lateral thinker, problem solver and detail obsessive, Jim can found in front on his Mac nose pressed against the screen checking each pixel is where it needs to be. Enjoys going to art galleries, film and gigs that make his ears hurt.

Nick Grimshaw

Senior Systems Administrator

Nick has a fearsome repertoire featuring languages like PHP, Java, Ruby, XHTML, CSS, XSLT, Python, C, C++, Perl, Lua, Lisp and Tk (he'd have you believe that he could only wing-it with some of those, but we're not fooled).

He works with us in a support capacity, planning the development of long-term strategic goals and security considerations for our systems and those of our clients.

Support team

Markup Developers

We have a number of freelancer markup guys available to us. All are fluent in producing standard-based, WAI compliant websites written in XHTML and CSS. As well as this, they're also experienced with PHP, MySQL, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Flash (+ ActionScript 2) and JavaScript.

They produce very nice templates from the designs we provide, bringing them to life as beautiful, compliant, accessible web pages that they then hand back to Matt to turn into websites.

H18 People

Rockers and Space Cadets

H18 is an ambitious company staffed by people who place their focus on quality. We only ever deliver cutting-edge, London-standard work and we never charge any more than our competitors. We simply want to give you the value for money you expect but don't always get elsewhere.

If you're a business in North London, Hertfordshire or Essex looking for website, online shop or print design you might like to have a chat with us.

H18

What’s in
a name?

What is H18?

Unsurprisingly, we get asked that a lot. We originally conceived the business as Hangar18 which, as some of you may be aware, is the very famous home of, it is alleged, extra-terrestrial artefacts in the American location known only as Area 51. But we don't care about that, there's a better reason...

Hangar18 also happens to be a fantastic thrash metal track from the Album "Rust In Peace", performed by a band that the directors really quite like, Megadeth. And that's why we liked it as a name. It also happens to be the hardest track to play on guitar hero (so we're told!) :)

We decided to gear that particular name (what we refer to as a flavour) toward providing services to musicians (here) because the imagery we used lent itself more to that kind of enterprise. H18 was conceived as a softer flavour of our business, and here we are.
